I didn't say they didn't matter. In fact, I said that a justice's politics would inform what judicial philosophy they would adopt. I also said that all the judicial philosophies have merit, and that people are often shocked when "their" justice adheres to their judicial philosophy, but renders an outcome that is not in line with the politics of the camp that was pushing for their nomination. Like Justice Barrett did with the vaccine mandate.
